The John Muir Festival – 21 April 2014, Dunbar

We are super excited that Dunbar is playing such an important role in the John Muir Festival. This Festival will celebrate the life of John Muir who, as a boy, lived and began his journey of exploration and conservation in Dunbar.

John Muir lived with his family in Dunbar High Street where the John Muir Birthplace Museum is located now. This Museum is devoted to remembering and celebrating his life and work.

On Monday 21 April 2014 the Opening Ceremony of the John Muir Way, a key event of the John Muir Festival, will take place in Dunbar. The John Muir Way is a walking and cycling pathway which will now stretch from Dunbar to Helensburgh offering a superb coast to coast route across Central Scotland.

As part of the Festival and Opening Ceremony there is the opportunity to sign up to ‘Carry a Flag for John Muir’ along the new pathway. Runners, walkers and cyclists can take part in this celebratory event. You can sign up here.

We are delighted to be taking part in the Festival by offering free bike safety checks to the cyclists attending the Opening Ceremony of the John Muir Way and to those who will carry the John Muir flags. We are also offering free bike hire that day if visitors would like to take part in the event. On Opening Ceremony Day, Monday 21 April 2014, we will be positioned on the grassy area close to the swimming and leisure centre in Dunbar, EH42 1EU.

If you are taking part in the event and would like your bike safety checked in advance of the Opening Ceremony or would like to reserve a hire bike you can; pop into the shop, we’re at Rigg Service Station, Belhaven Road, Dunbar, East Lothian EH42 1DE, call us on 01368 860300, email us, or contact us on Twitter
